Ingredients
Scale
1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground allspice
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
1 cup unsweetened applesauce
1/2 cup vegetable oil
2 large eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
For the Frosting: 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened
3 cups powdered sugar, sifted
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1–2 tablespoons milk (if needed)
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13 inch baking pan.
In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, baking powder, cinnamon, allspice, cloves, and salt. Set aside.
In a separate medium bowl, whisk together the granulated sugar, brown sugar, applesauce, vegetable oil, eggs, and vanilla extract until well combined.
Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients. Mix on low speed or by hand until just combined. Do not overmix the batter.
Pour the batter evenly into the prepared baking pan.
Bake for 30 to 35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
Let the cake cool completely in the pan on a wire rack before frosting.
To make the frosting, beat the softened cream cheese and butter together in a large bowl until smooth.
Gradually add the powdered sugar and cinnamon, beating until fully incorporated.
Mix in the vanilla extract. If the frosting is too thick, add milk one tablespoon at a time until you reach a smooth, spreadable consistency.
Spread the cinnamon cream cheese frosting evenly over the cooled cake.
Notes
For a richer flavor, you can substitute half of the applesauce with unsweetened applesauce.
You can add 1/2 cup of raisins or chopped walnuts to the batter before baking for extra texture.
This cake stays moist for several days when stored in an airtight container at room temperature. This recipe is a great alternative to traditional meal planning when you need a quick, satisfying dessert.
