Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon melted butter
  • 1 cup chopped apples (about 1 medium apple)
  • For the Glaze: 1 cup powdered sugar, 2-3 tablespoons milk, 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a baking sheet or line it with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt.
  3. In a separate medium bowl, whisk together the egg, milk, vanilla extract, and melted butter.
  4. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Do not overmix.
  5. Gently fold in the chopped apples.
  6. Drop spoonfuls of the batter onto the prepared baking sheet, about 2 tablespoons per fritter, leaving some space between them.
  7. Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown and cooked through.
  8. While the fritters are baking, prepare the glaze. In a small bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth. Add more milk if needed to reach your desired consistency.
  9. Once the fritters are out of the oven and slightly cooled, drizzle the glaze over them.
  10. Let the glaze set before serving.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, you can add a pinch of nutmeg to the batter.
  • Ensure your apples are chopped into small, uniform pieces for even cooking.
  • You can substitute whole wheat flour for half of the all-purpose flour for a slightly healthier option.
