Authentic Carne Asada Marinade

A flavorful and tenderizing marinade for authentic carne asada, perfect for grilling.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup fresh lime juice
  • 1/4 cup orange juice
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 jalapeño, seeded and minced
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, whisk together lime juice, orange juice, olive oil, minced garlic, minced jalapeño, cumin, oregano, salt, and pepper.
  2. Stir in chopped cilantro.
  3. Place your desired cut of steak (skirt steak or flank steak recommended) in a resealable bag or shallow dish.
  4. Pour the marinade over the steak, ensuring it is fully coated.
  5. Marinate in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours, or preferably overnight.
  6. Grill the marinated steak to your desired doneness.
  7. Let the steak rest for a few minutes before slicing against the grain.

Notes

  • For a spicier marinade, leave some seeds in the jalapeño or add a pinch of cayenne pepper.
  • This marinade is also excellent for pork or chicken.
  • Serve carne asada in tacos, burritos, or as a main dish.
