Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Vegetable oil, for frying
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan, combine water, butter, and salt. Bring to a boil over medium heat.
  2. Remove from heat and stir in flour until a smooth dough forms. Return to low heat and cook, stirring constantly, for 1 minute.
  3. Transfer dough to a mixing bowl. Beat in eggs one at a time until fully incorporated. Stir in vanilla extract.
  4. Pour vegetable oil into a deep skillet or Dutch oven to a depth of about 3 inches. Heat oil to 375°F (190°C).
  5. Spoon dough into a piping bag fitted with a large star tip. Carefully pipe 4-6 inch strips of dough into the hot oil, cutting the dough with scissors. Do not overcrowd the pan.
  6. Fry churros for 2-3 minutes per side, until golden brown and cooked through.
  7. Remove churros with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
  8. In a shallow dish, combine granulated sugar and cinnamon. Toss warm churros in the cinnamon-sugar mixture until evenly coated.
  9. Serve immediately with your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

  • For a chocolate dipping sauce, melt 1 cup of semi-sweet chocolate chips with 2 tablespoons of butter in a microwave-safe bowl in 30-second intervals, stirring until smooth.
  • You can bake churros at 400°F (200°C) for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown, for a less messy option.
  • Ensure your oil is at the correct temperature for crispy churros.
