Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • Vegetable oil, for frying
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, 1/2 cup sugar, baking powder, salt, and nutmeg.
  2. In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk, egg, and melted butter.
  3. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Do not overmix.
  4. Heat about 2-3 inches of vegetable oil in a heavy-bottomed pot or Dutch oven over medium heat to 350°F (175°C).
  5. While the oil heats, prepare the cinnamon sugar coating: In a shallow dish, combine the 1/2 cup sugar and cinnamon.
  6. Drop rounded tablespoons of dough into the hot oil, being careful not to overcrowd the pot. Fry for 2-3 minutes per side, until golden brown.
  7. Using a slotted spoon, remove the donut holes from the oil and drain on paper towels.
  8. While still warm, toss the donut holes in the cinnamon sugar mixture until evenly coated.
  9. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • For best results, serve donut holes warm.
  • You can adjust the amount of cinnamon in the coating to your preference.
  • Ensure your oil is at the correct temperature for even cooking.
