A simple recipe for warm, spiced apple cider made in a Dutch oven, perfect for fall gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 cups apple cider
  • 1 orange, sliced
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 1 teaspoon whole cloves
  • 1 teaspoon whole allspice berries
  • 1/4 cup maple syrup (optional)

Instructions

  1. Combine apple cider, orange slices, cinnamon sticks, cloves, and allspice berries in a Dutch oven.
  2. Bring the mixture to a simmer over medium heat.
  3. Reduce heat to low, cover, and let simmer for at least 1 hour, or up to 3 hours, to allow flavors to meld.
  4. Stir in maple syrup, if using, during the last 15 minutes of simmering.
  5. Strain the cider to remove spices and orange slices before serving.
  6. Ladle into mugs and serve warm.

Notes

  • For a stronger spice flavor, you can tie the whole spices in a cheesecloth sachet before adding them to the pot.
  • This cider is delicious served with a cinnamon stick or an orange slice as a garnish.
  • Consider this a great non alcoholic party drink option.
