Ingredients
Scale
2 cups ketchup
1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1/4 cup molasses
2 tablespoons yellow mustard
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon smoked paprika
1 teaspoon onion powder
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional, for heat)
Instructions
Combine the ketchup, apple cider vinegar, brown sugar, molasses, yellow mustard, and Worcestershire sauce in a medium saucepan.
Add the smoked paprika, onion powder, garlic powder, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper, if using.
Whisk all ingredients together until they are fully combined.
Bring the mixture to a simmer over medium heat, stirring occasionally. Do not let it boil rapidly.
Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce gently simmer for 15 minutes, stirring every few minutes to prevent sticking. This allows the flavors to meld.
Remove the saucepan from the heat. The sauce will thicken slightly as it cools.
Transfer the sauce to an airtight container. You can use it immediately or store it for later use.
Notes
For a deeper smoky flavor without liquid smoke, increase the smoked paprika to 1 1/2 teaspoons.
If you are following a low-sugar diet, substitute the brown sugar with a sugar substitute equivalent to 1/2 cup of sugar, or use a keto-friendly sweetener. This is a good alternative to some keto meal plan delivery options.
This sauce keeps well in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.
To make this sauce suitable for grilling chicken wings or as a dipping sauce, you can thin it slightly with a tablespoon of water or vinegar after cooling if the consistency is too thick for your preference.
