Crispy chicken bites coated in a sweet and spicy sauce, made at home in about 25 minutes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound boneless, skinless chicken thighs, cut into 1-inch pieces
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil, plus more for frying
  • Cooked rice, for serving
  • Sesame seeds, for garnish
  • Chopped green onions, for garnish

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, whisk together soy sauce, rice vinegar, honey, cornstarch, sesame oil, and red pepper flakes. Set aside.
  2. In a separate bowl, toss chicken pieces with flour until coated.
  3. Dip floured chicken into the beaten egg, then dip again into the flour mixture, ensuring a good coating.
  4. Heat 1/4 cup vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add chicken in a single layer, working in batches if necessary, and cook until golden brown and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes per batch. Remove chicken from skillet and set aside.
  5. Add the prepared sauce to the same skillet. Bring to a simmer and cook, stirring, until thickened, about 1-2 minutes.
  6. Return the cooked chicken to the skillet and toss to coat in the sauce.
  7. Serve immediately over cooked rice, garnished with sesame seeds and green onions.

Notes

  • For an air fryer version, toss coated chicken with a little oil and air fry at 400°F (200°C) for 10-12 minutes, or until cooked through and crispy. Then toss with the sauce.
  • Adjust red pepper flakes for your preferred spice level.
