Make this rich, fudgy hot fudge pie that tastes like a combination of a brownie and a molten lava cake. It is easy to prepare and perfect served warm with vanilla ice cream.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 (9-inch) unbaked pie crust (store-bought or homemade)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 large eggs, lightly beaten
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Place the unbaked pie crust in a 9-inch pie plate.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the sugar, flour, cocoa powder, and salt until combined.
  3. Add the melted butter, eggs, vanilla extract, and milk to the dry ingredients. Mix with a spoon or whisk until the batter is smooth. Do not overmix.
  4. Stir in the chocolate chips until they are evenly distributed throughout the batter.
  5. Pour the chocolate mixture into the prepared pie crust.
  6. Bake for 35 to 40 minutes. The edges should look set, but the center will still be soft and gooey, similar to a brownie.
  7. Remove the pie from the oven and let it cool on a wire rack for at least 30 minutes before slicing. The center will firm up slightly as it cools.
  8. Serve the pie warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.

Notes

  • For a truly decadent experience, use high-quality chocolate chips.
  • If you prefer a firmer pie, bake for an additional 5 minutes, but remember this pie is best when the center remains fudgy.
  • This pie pairs well with coffee or a glass of cold milk. Consider this recipe when looking at meal planning for a special weekend treat.
