A savory herb and cheese bread made easily in your bread machine, perfect for sandwiches or as a side dish.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 1/4 cups water
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 3 1/2 cups bread flour
  • 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1/2 cup shredded Parmesan cheese
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
  • 1 tablespoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

Instructions

  1. Add water, olive oil, salt, and sugar to the bread machine pan.
  2. Add bread flour over the wet ingredients. Make a small well in the flour and add the yeast.
  3. Select the basic or white bread cycle and set the crust to medium.
  4. When the machine beeps for add-ins (usually about 10-15 minutes into the kneading cycle), add the shredded Parmesan cheese, chopped parsley, dried oregano, dried basil, and garlic powder.
  5. Allow the bread machine to complete its cycle.
  6. Once the cycle is finished, carefully remove the bread from the pan and let it cool on a wire rack before slicing.

Notes

  • For best results, use bread flour.
  • You can substitute other cheeses like mozzarella or cheddar for part of the Parmesan.
  • Fresh herbs can be used instead of dried; use about three times the amount of fresh herbs as dried.
  • Store cooled bread in an airtight container or bread bag at room temperature for up to 3 days.
  • For longer storage, wrap the cooled loaf tightly in plastic wrap and then in foil, and freeze for up to 3 months.
