Ingredients
Scale
3 lbs sweet potatoes, peeled and cut into 1-inch pieces
1/2 cup heavy cream
4 tablespoons unsalted butter
1/4 cup packed light brown sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
Instructions
Place the cut sweet potatoes in a large pot and cover them with cold water. Add a pinch of salt to the water.
Bring the water to a boil over high heat, then reduce heat to medium and cook until the potatoes are fork-tender, about 15 to 20 minutes.
Drain the potatoes completely. Return them to the hot, empty pot and let them sit for 1 minute to allow excess moisture to evaporate.
Add the heavy cream, butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, salt, and pepper to the pot.
Use a potato masher or an electric hand mixer to mash the potatoes until they reach your desired creamy consistency. Mix until the butter is melted and the ingredients are fully incorporated.
Taste and adjust seasoning if needed. Serve immediately as a festive vegetable side.
Notes
For extra richness, substitute half of the heavy cream with sour cream.
If you prefer a slightly chunky texture, mash by hand instead of using an electric mixer.
To make this a savory sweet potato mash, omit the brown sugar and cinnamon, and add 1 clove of roasted garlic and 1 tablespoon of fresh thyme.
