Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 (32 ounce) bag frozen tater tots
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 tablespoon taco seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon water
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar or Mexican blend cheese
  • 1 cup shredded Monterey Jack cheese
  • 1/2 cup prepared queso (optional)
  • 1/4 cup sliced jalapeƱos (fresh or pickled)
  • 1/2 cup diced tomatoes or pico de gallo
  • 1/4 cup sliced black olives
  • Sour cream, for topping
  • Salsa, for serving

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 425 degrees Fahrenheit. Spread the frozen tater tots in a single layer on a large, rimmed baking sheet.
  2. Bake the tater tots according to package directions until they are golden brown and crispy, usually 20 to 25 minutes.
  3. While the tots bake, cook the ground beef in a skillet over medium heat. Drain off any excess fat.
  4. Stir the taco seasoning and water into the cooked ground beef. Cook for 1 minute until the seasoning is incorporated.
  5. Remove the baked tater tots from the oven. Sprinkle the seasoned ground beef evenly over the tots.
  6. Top the beef and tots with the shredded cheddar and Monterey Jack cheeses. If using queso, drizzle it over the top layer.
  7. Return the baking sheet to the oven and bake for 5 to 8 minutes, or until the cheese is fully melted and bubbly.
  8. Remove from the oven. Immediately scatter the sliced jalapeƱos, diced tomatoes, and black olives over the melted cheese.
  9. Serve the Tater Tot Nachos immediately with dollops of sour cream and salsa on the side.

Notes

  • For extra crispy tots, bake them on a wire rack set inside the baking sheet.
  • You can substitute ground beef with cooked chorizo or shredded cooked chicken for a different flavor profile.
  • Use a sheet pan for easy cleanup after serving your game day snack.
