Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 medium apples (such as Honeycrisp, Gala, or Fuji), peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) cold unsalted butter, cut into cubes
  • 1/2 cup rolled oats (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large bowl, toss the sliced apples with 2 tablespoons of flour, granulated sugar, 1 teaspoon cinnamon, and nutmeg. Pour the apple mixture into an 8×8 inch baking dish.
  3. In a separate medium bowl, whisk together 1 cup flour, brown sugar, 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon, and salt.
  4. Cut in the cold butter using a pastry blender or your fingertips until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in the rolled oats, if using.
  5. Sprinkle the crumble topping evenly over the apples.
  6. Bake for 35-45 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are tender and bubbly.
  7. Let cool for at least 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • For a richer topping, use 1/4 cup of chopped pecans or walnuts.
  • Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
  • To reheat, place a slice in the microwave for 20-30 seconds or in a 300°F (150°C) oven for 5-10 minutes.
